Description

My little astroimaging group went out to our favorite dark site last night. It got down to about 5 degrees F, but we had an ice fishing tent and a little propane heater. I can’t say that we were warm, but at least we could thaw out out fingers and toes now and then.

My goal was to image the Leo Triplet and was fairly successful. I didn’t get as many frames as I wanted because my laptop shut down a few times because of the cold and I had to restart everything a few times. I did get 16 frames to stack at 4 minutes each. I was using my Sony A7RIII camera, which is not controlled by my laptop so It kept taking photos even though my mount was drifting at times. I got some very interesting looking sub frames.

I haven’t been able to get out and do any deep space imaging for  months because the clouds never go away, unless the moon it full. I have been going back over a few of my older images and are tweaking them out of sheer boredom. Maybe I made this image better or not. At least I am getting some practice.  We have been getting a lot of rain and snow in my part of the country for the last two years which is a good thing because of how dry it has been for the last decade or so. It would be nice to have a few nights with no moon and clear skies.
