Description

NGC 3132, nicknamed the the 'Eight-Burst' Nebula (where did that name come from?) and the Southern Ring Nebula is a planetary nebula in the southern constellation Vela the sails. It is cataloged as Caldwell 74. Despite what you see in this image, it is not the bright central star, but the fainter one that illuminates this pool of the light.
