Description

From October 2007:

Here's an image of one of my favourite galaxies. It's ngc 6643 in Draco, a magnitude 11.1, Sc type spiral. Surface brightness is high at 12.9 magnitudes per square arcmin, which makes it an attractive target for the ccd imager. It's quite distant, however, at 80 MLy and so it's apparent size is only 3.5' x 2'.

Imaged at prime focus of my 10" Newtonian for 60 x 60 second integrations. One of the few fainter galaxies to show both some colour and detail in the arms.
