Description

IC405 is also referred to as SH2-229 and commonly as the Flaming Star Nebula. It's located it the constellation of Auriga surrounding the 6th magnitude star, AE Aurigae. It's about 1500 light years away and about 5 light years across. It's an emission and reflection nebula glowing reddish from the ionized Hydrogen and Sulphur gasses and reflecting some of the intense blue light from AE Aurigae.
