Description

This object is an emission nebula low in the southern sky, in the constellation of Scorpius. It is located just over 4000 light years away and is about 10 light years wide. Two dark dust lanes cut through the center of the nebula. The emission is dominated by hydrogen. An interesting faint front of SII causes the face profile apparition to appear on the right side of the image. There is little OIII present in this nebula.
