Description

Here is a beautiful emission nebula with the catchy title of NGC 6820. This nebula lies in the constellation of Vulpecula, The Little Fox, not far (in angular terms) from the famous Dumbbell Nebula (M27). The nebula surrounds the open star cluster NGC 6823 and perhaps the most striking feature is the trunk-like pillar of dust and gas clearly seen in this image.

This rendition is made using three narrowband filters and they have been combined into the famous 'Hubble Palette' where the light from Sulpher II (SII), Hydrogen Alpha (Ha) and Oxygen III (OIII) are combined into the red, green and blue channels respectively. Each channel has over 13 hours of exposure over many days in June and July this year (2022). All exposures were 20 minutes long.

I took the image using my equipment at Pixel Skies detailed here.
