Description

This object is a spiral galaxy peaking through a window in a beautiful field of galactic cirrus. This galaxy, located 60 million light years away in the constellation of Aries, is about 50,000 light-years across. The apparent diameter of the galaxy to us is only 3 minutes.

Not much has been written about this galaxy. Although only half the size of our galaxy, NGC 918 shows beautiful spiral arms and dust lanes. The core is slightly barred. Several bright star clusters or Ha regions are visible slightly below and left of the core. A 10th magnitude star is seen above and to the left of the galaxy.
