Description

I was initially combining my data just to see how much more data I might need to make a decent image, but as I progressed I was impressed with the results I was getting with only 5 and a half hours of total integration on this object. So I pushed though on the rest of the processing steps and got this result, which I am very happy with. With my gear located remotely I frequently have to live with the sensor orientation I get, but in this case. other than wishing for perhaps a larger sensor, the orientation I am currently at worked well for this object.

The Seagull Nebula, located on the border between the constellations Monoceros and Canis Major, is a very fascinating object, with decent signal in all 3 common narrowband wavelengths and some nice intricate detail to try to bring out. It is estimated to be about 3,600 light years away. NGC 2327 is a cataloged region that refers to the Seagull's head region, which has some interesting detail as well as region of dark nebulosity zizagging through it.

All data was taken on the QHY268M in Mode 1, Gain 56, offset 25.
