Description

This amazing face-on grand spiral galaxy is a wonderful target at any time, but it is especially exciting to image when it is the location of a supernova. The one depicted here, SN 2023ixf, was first detected on May 19th by a Japanese amateur astronomer. Here it is still clearly visible in even this relatively short integration image of the galaxy 6 days later.

A bit of a 'late-to-the-party posting, as I did not realize I had not put this up yet. Lots of more impressive versions out there but still exciting to have captured this myself.
