Description

Located 2500 light-years away, Messier 76 is one of only 4 planetary nebula in the Messier catalog.  Quick....can you name  the others?  The little dumbbell is bipolar, and has 2 NGC designations.   It was originally thought to be a double nebula, so each lobe received it's own number.  Being roughly 3 arcmins x 2 arcmins, the nebula has a real extent of about 1.25 light-years.  The central star (actually a non-visual double) is ~16th magnitude. Ok, the other planetaries in Messier's catalog are the Dumbbell, Ring, and Owl (in case you momentarily forgot!).
