Description

The Jellyfish Nebula aka IC 443 / SH2-248 is a large supernova remnant (SNR) roughly 70 light years across in the constellation Gemini.  It’s located at a distance of approximately  5,000 light-years away and is believed to be the remnants of a supernova a that occurred 30,000 - 35,000 years ago.

This image captures both IC 443 (top of frame) and reflection nebula IC 444 (lower half of image) in the same frame.

Title: Jelly Fish revisited! (Now with even more data and better attention to details)

Description: I decided I wanted to see if I could improve on this initial effort for the Jelly Fish, and took the last night of a beautiful 5 night strength of clear skies here in Maryland to collect more data.

I'm still new to SHO imagining with one shot color cameras and the Askar colormagic dual bank filters, but am starting to learn the nuiances of how to properly collect and post process the data to retain detail while blending the bands/colors.

This image contains all the data from the original, plus an addition batch of subs that were twice as long/deep (10 mins). The acquistion details have been updated to reflect this addition data (Applies only to the final version)

Title: Final version - reprocessed to eliminate odd banding issues at bottom of previous image

Description: Somewhere along the processing route an odd banding got inadvertently introduced to the bottom of the image posted previous. Reprocessed the data one more time through the workflow to insure the banding was not introduced.
