Description

Located roughly 2,400 light years from Earth, Sh2-155 is located in the Cepheus constellation.  It is a diffuse nebula embedded in an area of bright Ha emission nebulae. It is also surrounded by several dark and reflection nebulae.  Although it does not look like a cave to me, it is thought the name was chosen due to the arcing nebulosity that through early instruments looked like the opening to a cave.  To confuse matters there is another object in Cepheus, Ced201/VdB152, that is also known as the cave nebula.

I chose to go with a pure LRGB image to showcase the natural beauty of the region.  The signal is exaggerated for visual effect, but I tried to stay true to the natural color pallet.

It has been a splendid run of dark skies and optimal seeing conditions at SRO over the past few weeks.  Most of these frames were captured in sub arc-second seeing conditions with the moon below the horizon which enabled me to resolve a lot of the fine detail.

I hope you like it.
