Description

The Wizard Nebula, also known as NGC 7380, is an emission nebula located about 7,000 light-years away in the constellation Cepheus. It is a roughly 110 light-year wide cloud of gas and dust shaped by the strong stellar winds from a group of young, hot stars. The stars are members of the open star cluster NGC 7380, which formed about 5 million years ago.

The Wizard Nebula gets its name from its distinctive shape, which resembles a wizard's hat. The shape is created by the interaction of the stellar winds from the young stars in NGC 7380 with the surrounding gas and dust. The stellar winds are blowing away the gas and dust, but they are also carving out channels through the material. These channels are what gives the nebula its distinctive shape.

The nebula's bright blue color is due to the emission of light from oxygen atoms that are excited by the high-energy radiation from the young stars in NGC 7380.
