Description

Open star clusters are the primary means of star formation within our Milky Way galaxy, concentrated within the spiral armss. They vary from a few 10's to a few 1000's. The Wild Duck Cluster is one of the richest and most compact known, containing about 2900 stars at ~220 million years old. The brighter stars form a triangle which could represent the outline of a flock of ducks in flight
