Description

Messier 33 Ha+LRGB

Captured with a monochrome camera, at a focal length of 380mm, this wide field  image of the Triangulum galaxy has a total integration time of 16 hours. Five of the 16 hours  were captured through an Ha filter and that data was added to the red channel to highlight the regions with potential star formation activities.

The largest documented stellar nursery is located in the lower central portion of the image and is designated as NGC604. For size comparisons, NGC604 is about ten times the size of the Orion nebula (Messier 42), one of the closest stellar nurseries to earth.  This makes the NGC 604 region of the Triangulum galaxy one of the largest stellar nurseries to ever be studied.

At 2.8 million light years away, Messier 33 is the third largest and the most distant galaxy in our local group of galaxies. Although it is smaller in size compared to the Milky Way and Andromeda galaxies, its overall size and brightness permit it to be seen with the naked eye, when observing in dark skies.

I'm new to shooting and processing galaxies in monochrome and I always want to produce a better image. Constructive feedback is welcome.

Thanks for viewing!
