Description

This object is a rarely imaged emission nebula located 10,000 light years away in the constellation of Cassiopeia at a declination of +61 degrees. The nebula spans about 15 arc-minutes in our apparent view, which corresponds to a width of 45 light years.

Sometimes I am passionate about imaging certain objects and later I wonder why. This one barely showed up in my subs, and looked so washed out in the first Ha master that I went out and took another set. Probably not the best use of my clear sky time. This object looks like the poor cousin of the Seagull Nebula.

I like the shapes of the bright red emission clouds above the center of the image. The dark cloud at the top of the image is Dobashi 3530 and LDN 1245. Studies have identified numerous YSO (young stellar object) candidates embedded in the clouds of this emission region.
