Description

4100 light-years distant in Sagittarius, the Lagoon nebula is a naked eye object that contains primarily bright emission, but also dark nebula components.    The nebula has a nice star cluster in formation, and Bok gobules are present in many other regions of the nebula.    The star cluster is about 2 million years old.  The nebula spans 90 x 45 arcminutes, with a true size of over 100 x 50 light years.
