Description

M45 a.k.a. Pleiades a.k.a. The Seven Sisters is an open star cluster located in the constellation Taurus. It contains middle-aged, hot B-type stars. It's one of the closest start clusters to the Earth, and it's the closest object in the Messier catalog to Earth.

Most of the stars in the cluster are believed to have formed within the last 100 million years. The reflection nebulae around the bright stars were once believed to be leftover material from their formation, but we now believe that it's an unrelated dust cloud that the stars happen to be traveling through.
