Description

Man I have been working on this for awhile with a lot of trial and error, more error.  Mostly in trying to find the Butterfly portion of this area.  One of the errors was my last pic, which is a close up of this area as I set up the wrong scope, LOL.   This ended up being over 22 hours of data, going back to August of 2022, but if you would see my stacked image of everything, it looks more like a cross word puzzle piece.  I think I finally see the Butterfly, which is the image that zooms over top.  I decided to post more than just the butterfly as it is a very pretty area of space with lot of cool fixtures, detail, and dark / dusty nebula.

SH2-108 is around 1,500 light years away and only 26 light years across and it is surrounded by the Gamma Cygni Nebula which is deep in the Orion arm of our Milky Way Galaxy.  The Gamma Cygni Nebula, named after the bright star shown in the image, is very large and spans over 6 full moons and includes a star cluster NGC 6910.  Gamma Cygni is also known as Sadr (which refers to the great celestial Sawn and comes from an Arabic phrase that means "the hen's breast").  Sadr is an unusual class F8 Supergiant that is yellow-white where most supergiant's are blue white or reddish.  Sar is in  the process of dying and ceased fusing hydrogen in its deep core.  Sadr is not part of the nebula as it is in the foreground and estimated to be around 750 light years away.
