Description

I've seen some beautiful images of Mars being posted lately.  Obviously the ones with fine details were taken with C14s or larger scopes.   But I decided to give it a go with my 9.25" since that's what I have and it's close enough to opposition that I don't think it will make much difference and god knows what the weather will be like next week.  I was happy that I was able to get a steady and focused image in spite of the below average seeing conditions and at the end of the day (night?)  this is the best image of Mars that I have been able to capture so far.  Fingers crossed for a 5/5 seeing night in the next couple of weeks :-)

Edit 12-4-22:  So I captured an additional few hours of data last night and decided to add them to this project rather than creating a new Mars post.  I reprocessed the previous images with 1.5X drizzle this time and it actually helped bring out a tiny amount of additional detail.  I still need to learn how to get the color balance of Mars right.  I used AutoStakkert's RGB Align, RegiStax RGB Balance, then Photoshop's Auto Color and Auto Tone and that seems to have produced an acceptable result, but it would be better to have it right out of the raw file.  Anyway, I am happy with the results and may capture one more series in a week or two so that I can get the other side of the planet.

The animation is composed of all the frames I was able to capture between the two nights.  Very jerky due to breaks for focusing, adjusting the ADC, and meridian flips.
