Description

NGC 4725 dominates the FOV in this capture, is estimated to be about 100,000 ly across, and is about 41 Mly distant.  It is noted that this galaxy only has one arm - although in higher-resolution images there appears to be arm spurs spinning off the main arm, giving the appearance of a multiple-armed galaxy.  (see NASA APOD here: https://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap150903.html)

NGC 4747 is a barred spiral galaxy about 35 Mly distant and is about 35,000 ly across - much smaller than 4725, but at similar distances from Earth.  Wiki lists these two galaxies at about 370 kly apart, which appears to be causing the larger of two tidal plumes in the direction away from 4725 (i.e. interacting galaxies).  The lesser plume is shorter, not as bright and in the general direction towards 4725.

The third galaxy here is NGC 4712 is at about the 3 o'clock position relative to NGC 4725 and is much further distant at about 210 Mly away.
