Description

There's a lot going on in this area of the Auriga (The Charioteer) constellation:

- Along the left hand side we have the Flaming Star Nebula (IC 405) is an H alpha emission region and a reflection nebula around the bluish star AE Auriga. It is about 1500 light years away.

- The bright stars to the right of the Flaming Star are 16 Aur (the orange one), and 17 Aur, 18 Aur, 19 Aur and IQ Aur

- Top middle is the open cluster NGC 1893 12,000 light years away and its associated emission nebula the Tadpoles Nebula (IC 410). The two "tadpoles", sculpted by winds and radiation from the cluster stars, can be seen  in the bottom right of the emission nebula with their 'heads' pointing towards the centre. The tadpoles are about 6 light years long and are likely sites of ongoing star formation. The heads are outlined ridges of ionised gas.

- Right middle are a pair of emission nebulae, the Spider and the Fly Nebulae (IC 417 and NGC 1931) which are about 10,000 light years away

- In the bottom right corner is the open cluster M38 (NGC 1912) about 3,480 light years away and just above left is another open cluster NGC 1907
