Description

Messier 45 (The Pleiades), is the closest open star cluster to Earth at a distance of 444 light years. Its hot-blue stars shine through what is now believed to be closer interstellar dust clouds, and not (as originally believed), the Pleiades own residue star formation material. Located to the top-right of the Orion constellation, M45 can be observed with the naked eye. The starlight Earth receives from it in 2023 started its journey in c1579 during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I.
