Description

It is amazing to post a single image that has an overall integration time that is approaching half of all the images posted here to date, but that is what this is. My remote set up (not really an observatory but instead gear set up outdoors and sun/weather protected when not in use) really has allowed me to up the integration times dramatically and I am enjoying the results. On this image, the framing might have been able to be optimized, but collecting data over a number of nights and not being at my equipment but running remotely, I did not worry about it too much and just took what TheSkyX plate solved for the center of my target. I did collect over a nuimber of nights, but do not have all the dates available right now as i post this, so just left the 2.

The ONAG was offline for the better part of this collect, so much of this was done umguided, but the last full night of data collection was accomplished with the ONAG and running SkyGuard for automated real-time focus and guiding, a set up that worked very well once I had it all running.

This image was a real challenge to process for me, as I had a preconceived notion of the look I wanted and had lots of trouble getting there with it. Thanks to lots of time experimenting, and some nice help from a few books, online tutorials, and a few very accomplished users on CN (Thanks Ethan!), I was eventually able to get a color mix I liked. The processing was done in PI, Photoshop, and Lightroom. PI did the preprocessing and a lot of the post work, Photoshop was used for a number of trial approaches, but ultimately provided my favorite way to add in my RGB stars plus some final color tweaks, and Lightroom did the final sharpening, NR, and export to jpeg steps.

I still have quite a ways to go on NB processing, but I did learn a number of things from the long process of creating this image. I expect I spent even more than the 25+ hours of time needed to collect this data in post processing it, but mercifully I did not keep track of that number
