Description

NGC 3718, which is interacting with its neighbors and distorting its spiral arms. This is about 9 hours of integration, with 30 second exposures, from those fabulously clear nights last week. The image looks flat to me. I think 30 second subs is too short for my 12-bit mono camera; I usually shoot 120s. Or perhaps I’m justifying a new ZWO ASI 2600…

Preprocessing
1. Subframe Selector to find and remove subframes with eccentricity ≥ 0.7
2. WeightedBatchProcessing
3. Create preview around galaxy
4. DrizzleIntegration with Region of Interest to crop to preview
5. Dynamic Background Extraction on R, G, B, L

L
1. EZ Denoise
2. EZ SoftStretch

RGB
1. ChannelCombination
2. ImageSolver script
3. Photometric Color Calibration
4. EZ Soft Stretch
5. Convolution to 3.0 StdDev
7. LRGB Combination to apply L, with 0.25 saturation and color noise reduction
8. Mask: Duplicate image, StarXTerminator, convert to grayscale, HT to bring in white and black points, convolution
9. Apply Mask to LRGB image
10. Curves Transformation to adjust galaxy color
11. Invert mask and saturate stars
12. Range Mask to mask galaxy centers, which are now too bright
13. Curves Transformation to dim galaxy centers
14. EZ Star Reduce
15. Export to TIFF, clean in Topaz Denoise
16. A bit of extra sharpening using the galaxy mask from step 8
