Description

NGC 7822 (or SH2-171... or The Question Mark Nebula... or the Flaming Skull Nebula...)
HOO + RGB
My original intention was to create this image in SHO. After collecting Hα and OIII and running a quick process to check the data, I really liked the way the image started to look with just HOO... pinks and purples were already creeping in nicely. I went in for another night of OIII and created a final image.

Here's what AI had to say about NGC 7822:
Some 4000 light-years from earth in the heart of the Cepheus constellation, a cosmic drama unfolded. A chance encounter with a massive shockwave from a nearby supernova initiated the formation of NGC 7822, a magnificent star-forming region. Gravity pulled together clumps of gas and dust, sparking the birth of a radiant cluster of stars that pierced the surrounding gas with their brilliance, causing it to glow with a reddish hue. Within this stellar crucible, pockets of dust and gas continued to collapse, birthing new stars, adding to the celestial spectacle. Over eons, stellar generations of varying ages coexisted in NGC 7822, shaping its vibrant and intricate features, with bright, glowing regions contrasting the dark, shadowy pillars, telling the story of ongoing creation and destruction in this cosmic nursery.
