Description

This week's image is the result of 163 individual shots of the Andromeda Galaxy. The red splotches are star-forming nebula — just like the nebula in our own Milky Way that I take so many photos of. Also visible are two other galaxies, which are smaller neighbors of Andromeda. This light took 2 ½ million years to reach us — it is that far away.

I love this image because it shows how far I've come since picking up this hobby earlier in the year. In the comments I'll post my original shot of Andromeda from early July. It's the same equipment, I've just learned to use it better.

Processing steps:

1. Calibrate using Weighted Batch Processing

2. subframe selector

3. StarAlign

4. Local Normalization

5. Image Integration

6. Drizzle Integration

7. Dynamic Crop

8. Dynamic Background Extraction

9. EZ decon

10. EZ denoise

11. LinearFit

12. Arcsinhstretch

13. EZ Star Reduce

14. PixelMath to combine R & G & B & Ha

15. Photometric Color Calibration

16. Curves Transformation with residual mask
