Description

I have always been fascinated by M104, nicknamed the Sombrero Galaxy.  Some of my favorite features of this galaxy include:

•    Our near edge-on view, peaking at its disk so that the bright core is just above the centerline
•    The distinct thick textured outer rim of the galaxy
•    The glow of the core, encompassing almost the entire disk
•    The flocculent disk, with no distinct arms

It is both the galaxy and our apparent view perspective of it that makes it so special.

Although unique in its look, I have found that there are many objects which look similar to M104.  I put this poster together of 25 galaxies which have a resemblance to M104.  These objects make excellent imaging targets for longer focal length systems.  But despite my extensive search, I could not find another "Sombrero-Type" galaxy which I liked as much as the prototype, M104.
