Description

I usually only image deep space objects, but had a chance to image the moon while waiting for darkness to arrive. Even though this was taken just ~50 minutes after the sun set, I was blown away by the contrast between the moon and inky black sky behind it. This was my first time using AutoStakkert!, so definitely haven't optimized its usage, but I was still happy enough with the results to do just a single brightness bump in photoshop and call it good. MUCH simpler than processing a deep sky image! I ended up taking 173 total exposures, but reduced this to the top 50 according to AutoStakkert!

The quality of the Stellarvue SVX-102T really shows in this image: basically zero aberrations, chromatic or otherwise!

The image acquisition details say 1 FPS, but really it was more like 1 frame every 5 seconds: while I love the clean CCD signal, it is certainly not fast! The 4 second download time overwhelms the .01 second exposure time. Guess I did get lucky with this one!

It was also fun to see how this image (which is uncropped) puts into perspective the size of other objects I've imaged. It still boggles my mind how large some deep space objects are from our perspective; if only they weren't so dim. But then again, it wouldn't be a challenge to image them, would it!
