Description

I spent two nights capturing the Cygnus Loop as it was setting in the western sky. I was hopeful that with 10 hours of integration the result would be a little better than it turned out. I had some different gradients that I was experimenting with how to best handle using DBE and starless linear image. I will probably come back and reprocess this one again from scratch.

I used 1x1 binning on the 294 MM at 2.3 um pixel scale to get better sampling for the short focal length of the 135 mm Rokinon. Definitely take a look at the full resolutions image to see the amazing amount of detail present within the eastern and western veil at such a short focal length.

The Cygnus Loop Complex which compromise both Eastern and Western Veils along with several several other NGC designated areas are a Super Nova Remnant that is believed to have occurred 21,000 years ago. The complex is approximately 2,400 light years from Earth and measures an estimated 130 light years in diameter. (Wikipedia)

Sh2-102 is quite a faint HII emission  region east of the Cygnus loop on the right hand side of the image. Very little is known about the nebula and its distance from Earth has not been determined.
