Description

So what do you do when you have a couple of clear nights with a near full moon, you capture NB.  Sh2-119, known as the Clam Shell nebula.  I guess I can see where they came up with the name, but I think it is a bit fishy.  But seriously, this is a large emission nebula that gets a bit overshadowed by nearby neighbors the North American and Pelican Nebulas.    This area also has several Lynd’s Bright Nebulae and Lynd’s Dark Nebulae and a Open Cluster (NGC 7044) that is about 11,000 light years away.  The bright star in the center is 68-Cygni.  Similiar to the North America nebula, this gas cloud is about 1,800 light years away.
