Description

Inside the nebula is an open cluster of bright young stars known as NGC 2244. These stars formed about four million years ago from the nebula's material, and their stellar winds blow a hole at the center of the nebula, bounded by a layer of dust and hot gas. The nebula surrounding the cluster glows under the influence of ultraviolet radiation from the stars in the cluster. Located at a distance of about 5000 light years.
