Description

Sharpless 115 (SH2-115), is the large, blue emission nebula in the upper left corner of the image, approximately 7,500 light years away. It is dominated by OIII emission, ionized by the very young stars in the open cluster cataloged as Berkeley 90.

Directly below is a small round blue object that was thought for decades to be a planetary nebula (PK085+04.1), but has recently been determined to be a small emission nebula, cataloged as SH2-116.

The Ha and SII signal is very strong in the region, while the OIII signal is much weaker, and confined mostly to the SH2-115 and SH2-116 regions.

Data was acquired over a four night span.
