Description

This image was produced with a combination of narrowband data from the Planewave 20" CDK and a luminosity image generated by summing all the five filter images downloaded from the Pan-Starrs 2 telescope images in the MAST database (https://mast.stsci.edu/portal/Mashup/Clients/Mast/Portal.html).

The NB data was mapped as follows, H to red, S to green and O to blue (other mapping produced an equally colored image). That resulted in a brightly colored Crab Nebula background image. This was upscaled and registered to match the resolution of the Pan-Starrs image. The Pan-Starrs image was produced by summing all the five images in Photoshop as follows. One of the filter images was designated as Background and the other four were added and designated as Lightening layers. That had the effect of removing most of the flaws commonly seen in Pan-Starrs images and worked much better then adding them in Pixinsight.

It's always fun to combine our data with that of the larger professional telescopes to produce something new and unique. I encourage everyone to give this a try. the data in the MAST database is free  and only requires that we credit it when used.
