Description

Near the Cat's Paw nebula (NGC 6334), the Lobster Nebula is 5.5K-6.0K light-years distant in Scorpius.   The field is ~1.5 x 1.0 degree.  This implies the region is roughly 160 light-years by  100 light-years wide.

Beyond the obvious dust/gas and star forming region, the object contains a star cluster with 3 of the largest known stars.   Originally thought to contain a single 300 stellar mass object, later (spectroscopic?) analysis revealed 3 separate objects, each of size 100 solar masses.

In this image, the framing didn't exactly turn out quite right, and a small portion of the bottom "claw" has been cut off (oops).   I'll try to improve on this in the future.   For now, let's consider this a work in progress.
