Description

A few nights ago I went out to my favorite dark site with a group of friends to do some imaging. The weather has not be cooperating for the last 9 months so it was nice to get a clear night with no moon for a change. My target was M101 because I wanted to get an image while the supernova was still visible.

I had a few issues with my imaging. Every time the mount dithered it would go in the same direction every time. I don’t know yet exactly why that happened, but over time the galaxy moved enough to make stacking it a challenge. My buddy, James Peirce, did me a big favor and plugged my images into Pixinsight and did some post processing. APP just wouldn’t line up the images, for some reason. I still need to figure that out.

I am pretty happy with the results, but not so thrilled with my stacking issues.
