Description

Really faint and tricky! A Cosmic Squid! This is OU4 - The Giant Squid Nebula in the constellation of Cepheus.

This is a Planetary Nebula driven by the outflow of a hot triple star system at its centre. It is *ridiculously* faint so the image consists of about 40 hours of 20 minute exposures in Ha an OIII filters and I still think I could do with more data!. The red comes from excited hydrogen atoms and the green from doubly ionised oxygen atoms. OU4 is within the larger Sh2-129 - Flying Bat Nebula.

I took this from my setup at Pixel Skies Astro in Spain here: http://www.astro-sharp.com/.../my-new-remote-setup-in-spain/
