Description

There aren't too many images of the Dark Doodad taken at moderate focal length (OK, so I am calling 640mm moderate) largely due to its extent on the sky., so I thought this image might be interesting to my AB friends.  I came across this data as part of a general clean out on my archive.Taken back in April, it didn't post it on Astrobin because I wasn't  really happy with it.  I am still not really happy with it, but with further post-prcoessing, it is not totally awful.

The biggest challenge is that an otherwise beautiful dark nebula  and globular cluster is photobombed by the bright star Gamma Mus.  I have done what I can to reduce the stellar halo, but it is still quite intrusive. [StarXterminator and NoiseXterminator by Russel Cronon have revolutionised my post-processing - I just need  HaloXterminator]
