Description

I have been wanting to get a better image of M27 for a few years. It isn’t a particularly difficult target to image but like everything else in this hobby It isn’t easy to get a great image of it either. I went to my favorite dark site which is about an hour southeast from where I live. The site is a plateau sitting at nearly 10,000 feet and is probably a Bortle 2 area with a tiny by of sky glow to the west.

I usually image with a 140 f/6.5 refractor but I wanted a larger image and perhaps a bit more detail on this target, so I used my C11. I took 32 images. Most were 210 second exposures and a few were 240 second images. Even though my PHD2 graph was showing between .6 and .7 RMS my images drifted in one direction over the two hours of imaging I did. The result was many of the smaller stars were oval, but I only found that out during post processing. I fixed it somewhat and the image really is better than any M27 photo I have produced so far so I thought I would share it.

This most recent version was improved by some help from my friend, James Pierce, who is a bit of a wizard with all things I T.
