Description

NGC 6820 is a small reflection nebula near the open cluster NGC 6823 in Vulpecula (toward the upper right corner in this image from the open cluster).

The reflection nebula and cluster are embedded in a much larger faint emission nebula called Sh 2-86. The whole area of nebulosity is often referred to as NGC 6820.

I have to note that while processing this image I was a bit concerned that the tones and colors kept gravitating into the fiery orange range.  I felt better after coming across this shot from the University of Alaska Anchorage using the 0.9m-meter telescope at Kitt Peak National Observatory. ;-)
