During 3 portions of night in December 2023, I have recorded new Sii data that I have added to HO data taken in September 2022.
Signal quality is generally better in Ha than in Oiii and Sii, respectively, and this unbalance represents always a challenge in building SHO images. Suggestions to deal with this processing aspect are more than welcome!
NGC 7822NGC 7822 is a young star forming complex in the constellation of Cepheus. The complex encompasses the emission region designated Sh2-171, and the young cluster of stars named Berkeley 59. The complex is believed to be some 2600-3200 ly distant, with the younger components aged no more than a few million years.
Together with Sh2-170 (Ced 214), it resembles the shape of a question mark, nickname that is frequently used to designate them together (see the ? in my
large field picture below).
Hot StarThe complex also includes one of the hottest stars discovered within 1 kpc (3200 ly) of the Sun, TYC 4294-6-1 (highlighted in the annotated pane), which is an eclipsing binary system with an O5V that exhibits a surface temperature of nearly 45,000 K and a luminosity about 100,000 times that of the Sun. The star is one of the primary sources illuminating the nebula and shaping the complex's pillars of creation-type formations.
