Description

After a week of cloudy nights a small opening allowed me the opportunity to capture this celestial wanderer as it sails through Perseus passing the double cluster (NGC 884/869).

I only had one hour and was pleased to obtain 6x120s exposures via a 210mm Pentax lens attached to my DSI-2C. These unguided images were stacked and strongly shadow enhanced in Envisage. Clearly this ~9.5mag comet requires longer guided exposures - perhaps tomorrow evening...

Description: I've reprocessed this image to try and suppress the background stars/noise, improve colour, and using a mask, to emphasise Comet PanStarrs C/2017 T2. My OSC camera really doesn't have the resolution for use with a camera lens, but it allows me to achieve a much wider field of view. An alternative would be to mount it on my finder, but I doubt this would be of the same quality. I still prefer the original, and will keep dreaming of one of those light-weight, wide field APOs that seem to be popular with night sky enthusiasts, if rather pricey.
