Description

I collected the data during on the nights of 19-20-21-22 March 2022, from my suburban Bortle 7 (+ moon) terrace with a color camera and a dual band Ha-OIII filter. I decided not to play too much with the colors, choosing not to swap or create synthetic channels, to make the two original bands clearly visible. Processing with PixInsight was probably the longest I ever did. I expected to become faster with the experience, and in fact what happens is exactly the contrary.

In the picture are visible two main objects, plus several far galaxies in the background.

Abell 21 (Medusa Nebula, PK205+14.1, Sharpless 2-274)
It was discovered in 1955 by George O. Abell, who classified it as an old planetary nebula. Soviet astronomers confirmed in 1971 that the original classification was correct. As the nebula is so large, its surface brightness is very low, with surface magnitudes of between +15.99 and +25 reported.
In the image here are visible the filaments in the body of the nebula. It is circa 1500 ly away from us.

NGC 2395 (Herschel 98 ) Open cluster
It is estimated to be 1700 lx distant and 6 ly wide. It contains 20 stars.
