Description

Sh2-311 is sometimes called The Skull and Crossbones Nebula, though it looks way more like a butterfly to me.  I guess we have too many butterfly-like nebulae, though. This is a very deep image based on over 17 hours of data taken in collaboration with Charles Pevsner (@cdp17) from a remote scope at DeepSkyChile. This object is bright enough that we may not have needed quite this much data, but I’m glad we have it, as it made processing a joy.
