Description

M8 and M20, the Lagoon and Trifid Nebulae are targets favoured by most astrophotgraphers. They often give a miss to the beautiful region to the east, in the rich star fields of the constellation Sagittarius. 5000 light years away and home to NGC 6559, the region contains small dust particles which reflect blue starlight efficiently and so creates the blue reflection nebulosity seen. Dust also absorbs visible light, causing the dark clouds and filaments. Ionized hydrogen is the reason for the red and bubble gum pink nebulosity. NGC 6559 lies about 5000 light-years away toward the constellation of Sagittarius, and is rich in objects all astrophotgraphers covet.
