Description

NGC 3718 (Arp 214) and friends. Spiral galaxy NGC 3718 has been distorted in to an s-shape possibly due to an interaction with nearby NGC 3729. A few other more distant galaxies complete the picture.

As an aside I think the collimation of the RC10 is much improved. Previously the stars had odd shapes and asymmetric brightness profiles. After not getting any better using the tools I decided to try a star test. This wasn't as difficult as I imagined and after a few tweaks of the primary mirror things looked much better.

I've also left this at it's original 2x2 bin resolution. I don't think the upscaling gained anything and encouraged pixel peeping which the conditions did not support.

Title: NGC3718 with 1x1 luminance.

Description: Reshot luminance data at 1x1 binning and recombined with the drizzled RGB shot at 2x2. Used Russ Croman's NoiseXTerminator which allowed me to sharpen a lot more than usual without introducing noise. Also picked up some tips from Patrick Cosgrove's tutorial on PI deconvolution. Overall I think it's an improvement.

Title: NGC3718 reprocessed

Description: A reprocess using new tools and know how. BXT with the new AI4 was especially helpful in fixing star shapes from my less than expertly collimated RC10. The small galaxy group bottom right also has much better definition - you can actually see their individual forms. Also used SXT this time and avoided ringing on a star in front of the galaxy.
