Description

The focal length of my my scope is 1050 mm, so I needed two panels to get at least 75% of M31. I would need at least 4 panels to get all of of it in and probably 6 panels to get a more traditional image. However, I like this close up and am satisfied with two panels. I used the mosaic technique as demonstrated by Ron Brecher of Masters of Pixinsight. This basically involves making a template with Star Alignment. Then the alignment of the panels with Star Alignment. The panels are then stitched together using Gradient by Mosaic. I've found this method to be be relatively easy and very effective. I probably should mention that I processed each panel first and then stitched them together. An alternative method would be to stitch together the panels for each filter then combine them. That obviously would be more time consuming, so I will have to try that sometime to see if it makes any significant difference.
