Description

I always thought that M17 was a boring nebula, not many images here on Astrobin are sticking out, but it was the only bigger nebula in the wonderful Sagittarius area that I did not target so far. In preparation of the expected bad summer weather I chose the morning hours in Spring, and good that I did since now it would not have been possible.
And how wrong I was with my opinion that it would be possibly a boring one, M17 has actually way more structures than I anticipated. And what is always great to have is strong emissions in all 3 channels, that makes SHO processing a fun project!
And I needed a fun project since I am stuck right now at home with Covid (together with my wife who of course was then infected by me), spread around at work, luckily all of us seem to be in a good shape. One never knows how much the vaccine shots helped with that, nevertheless, another big thanks to all the medical scientists that were working hard on this. In aftermath it looks like granted, but I know that it is not. And all of us were vaccinated, not a true statistic though 😊.
Version B and E are respectively doubled and tripled magnified. I added as well a Version D that actually shows how many stars are in this area. With LRGB data at hand it is possible to gauge the amount of stars. I thought that the less stars image looks a tick nicer since many stars usually distract from the nebula, but I could not help to show at least one version with all the stars that the broadband images provided.
While M17 looks already pretty cool, I love also the surrounding area, quite an extra bonus that the 6200 provided.
