Description

This is the northwest limb area of the moon a day before full phase, shot in near-IR because of poor seeing and transparency.  In good conditions I up sample 2X in AutoStakkert processing of video files, but the seeing was too soft to do that this time.  This area of the moon has a lot of interesting features that are not commonly observed because the phase needs to be within a day or two of full, and most imagers and observers avoid full moon.  Features visible in this image include the Aristarchus plateau with the cobra head and Schroters valley, the Marius hills volcanoes below Aristarchus (where Apollo 18 was supposed to land), the swirl feature called Reiner Gamma below the Marius hills, and the relatively fresh crater Cavalerius along the terminator, below the swirl near the bottom of the image.  Kepler and Copernicus are bottom center and right.
