Description

Montes Alpes is a mountain range in the northern part of the Moon. To its east is Mare Frigoris (Sea of Cold) and to its west is Mare Imbrium (Sea of Rains). The Vallis Alpes (Alpine Valley) Villis bisects this mountain range, connecting the Mare Frigoris and Mare Imbrium. The valley is about 166 km in length. The valley is narrow at both ends and widens to a maximum width of about 10 km along the middle.

A portion of the large impact crater Plato located in the Mare Imbrium is seen in the middle left of the image. The 90km-wide Aristoteles crater located in the Mare Frigoris appears in the middle right in the image.
